ATEN educational services offers a variety of professional development modules. Our team of specialists have over 70+ years of K-12 experience combined. We have the experience to provide relevant approaches to PD that develops skill sets, not just ideas.

Some of our trainings include:

Classroom management:

  • Gaining a deeper understanding of child/mind development, and approaches to understanding and managing student behavior.
  • Approaches to school culture and climate.
  • The setting of clear expectations.
  • Beneficial and just disciplinary tactics.

Culturally based teaching and learning:

Ample research proves the importance of students’ development of “group awareness”, and the need for a positive reference point in regards to self/group image and esteem. We coach professional educators in the often overlooked use of culture in effective instruction. Not only is this beneficial for student learning, but for the general school climate. This approach also aids teachers in better understanding their students.

Place-based learning:

Making learning real and valuable for the learner’s everyday experience; this is the goal of place based learning. How do we prevent over dependence on textbooks and worksheets? How do we equip educators with the tools to create engaging learning modules while meeting learning standards? How do we ensure durable learning takes place were learners can recall and apply key concepts? These questions and more are answered through our place-based learning approaches that are designed specifically for urban learning environments. Designed to make the learning stick by answering the why behind the how and what of the subject matter.

School and Student Nutrition:

As strong advocates of nutrition education in schools, we offer a comprehensive curriculum of nutrition education that is both standard aligned but also engaging and effective. Through the teaching of healthy eating practices, students gain a greater self awareness and tools to empower themselves. Research shows the impact of diet on mood, energy levels, memory and overall functioning. Teaching students and staff alike the impact of healthy eating will have a major impact on school culture.

New teacher training:

There is no amount of coursework one can do to be fully prepared to teach. Inevitably, new teachers will stumble and learn through experience. New teachers need support. ATEN educational consulting offers on site support for new instructors helping them maximize their effectiveness. ATEN ed. will help in lesson plan development, classroom management, parental interaction, student turnaround, general organization and the multitude of sub-skills that come with effective teaching.
